Del Norte, Colorado

Overview:

Named from the river Rio Grande del Norte, "Grand River of the North", and founded as a service center for mining activities. In the mid 1970's, prospectors found that nearby San Juan Mountains were rich in gold and silver. Agriculture and cattle ranching has also become a staple for this community.

Del Norte offers a vast amount of year-round fun including, biking, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling and shopping. The Pentinente Canyon and Elephant Rocks offer some of the best biking and hiking in the area. The Natural Arch located by Lagarita is also a sight to see.
